From a mental health counseling perspective we focus on athletes, first responders, and health care workers.

From a physical training perspective we emphasize a personalized, creative, endeavor to help people understand and improve themselves through movement.

Psychotherapy & Mental Health Counseling:

I specialize in working with athletes, health care workers, and first-responders; persons who are high-commitment professionals and resilient yet isolated individuals. Often times we have a strong identity tied to our work or sport, well developed physical intuition, experience acute and chronic trauma associated with extreme lifestyles and obscure scheduling, and still contend with identity conflict, under appreciation, and inadequate self-care. When we define ourselves by our capacity for action, skill, and grit; exist in a high-stress, often misunderstood world; and constantly give of ourselves, sometimes we need help.

I emphasize a holistic approach based on integrative wellness (including nutrition, fitness, and breath work). I have more than 10 years of experience working with trauma and personality disorders and frequently employ psychodynamic, person-centered, attachment theory, DBT, and mentalization-based interventions.

I believe that psychotherapy is a fundamentally relational process and my role is similar to both a detective and tour guide. I help you explore who you are, where you’ve been, and who you want to become. Topics of focus may include distress tolerance, emotional regulation, self-identity and efficacy, trauma and attachment, or interpersonal relationships.

Personal Training: Movement Based Self-Development

What makes fitness training at Onward different is that programs, periodization, and proprietary language are the least important parts of our practices. In this day and age, AI and any number of social media experts will readily tell you “what is optimal” and “what is science-based.”

“Science” and academic research will always lag behind experience of the do-ers and outliers that will eventually be the subject of such study.

We don’t sell PDFs. We suggest questions, tools, and movements to help you explore who you are and develop who you want to be come and what you want to be capable of.

We are students at least as much as we are teachers. Our hope is that we can help point you in a direction where your intuition and curiosity can continue to guide you on a fulfilling path under your own advisement.

While these practices may have a therapeutic benefit towards self-efficacy, confidence, distress tolerance, and mood regulation they do not constitute a replacement for psychotherapy and clinical mental health counseling.
